Cocktail Methods

Build
Pour all ingredients into the required glass, over ice, without any pre-mixing. It is best to serve built cocktails with long straws or a swizzle stick so that they can be stirred before drinking.

Stir and Strain
Pour ingredients over lots of ice into a mixing glass; stir gently until cold, strain into the required glass.

Shake and Strain
Pour ingredients over lots of ice into a cocktail shaker, shake short and sharp (preferably above the shoulder), strain into the required glass.

Blend
Place all ingredients into an electric blender. Add ice and blend until desired consistency is achieved. Pour unstrained into the required glass.

Sink
Pour ingredients down the side of the glass so that it sinks to the bottom.

Float
Pour ingredients over the top of the drink so that it sits above the previous level. This can be easily performed by pouring into the bowl of a spoon held over the glass.

Dash
Release in a quick spurt from a bottle with a speed pourer, usually 5ml.

Layer
Carefully build ingredients one on top of each other so that they remain in distinct layers in glass. This can be easily performed by pouring into the bowl of a spoon held over a glass.

On-the-rocks
Pour drink over ice in glass.
